Kaley Cuoco jokingly criticized Jim Parsons for choosing to sit with his Hidden Figures co-workers instead of The Big Bang Theory cast at the 2017 SAG Awards.

Cuoco and Parsons are good friends in real life, but that doesn't mean they don't like to engage to playful banter. At the 2017 Screen Actor Guild awards, Cuoco ribbed Parson for not sitting with her and her co-stars throughout the ceremony.

While Parsons was part of the Big Bang Theory's nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, he was also part of Hidden Figures' nod for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. This gave the actor a tough decision on where to sit throughout the 2017 ceremony.

In this article, we discuss why Jim Parsons didn't sit with his TBBT castmates at the 2017 SAG Awards. We also take a closer look at what Jim Parsons relationship is with his Big Bang Theory co-stars outside of the hit comedy.

Why Jim Parsons Chose Not To Sit With His The Big Bang Theory Castmates

Jim Parsons was honored to be nominated for his work in both the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory and in the movie biopic Hidden Figures.

When asked about the two nominations, Parsons gushed, "It's more exciting than I even thought it would be, I'll be honest with you. When it happened it was really neat, but it was really on the ride over I was tonight like, 'Oh my God, I have two groups of people I get to see!' It's kind of overwhelming in that way!"

When it came to which group Parsons would sit with, the Young Sheldon narrator admits he was only part of the decision.

"Here's what happens: you can't sit in both."

Kaley Cuoco was less than impressed with this decision, quipping, "Do you hear this? He just moves right into the Hidden Figures table. OK! This is news to me, if you can't tell."

Parsons promised he had told everyone on the Big Bang Theory cast about the seating arrangement "weeks ago" and added, "They have kindly put our tables close together."

Kaley Cuoco didn't drop the topic, pressing her co-star further, "Would it be weird if I sat at the Modern Family table?" The pair did promise they loved each other really, despite the joking around on the red carpet.

Jim Parsons And Kaley Cuoco's Real-Life Friendship

Years after The Big Bang Theory ended, the cast still keeps in touch and supports each other.

In a 2022 interview, Kaley Cuoco explained that she’s still in contact with her former co-stars.

"Everyone is really doing great. It's wonderful to see. That's what you hope for, right? You hope you want all your friends to be successful."

The Based On A True Story star added that “the texts are always happening” among the former castmates.

Following Kaley Cuoco's Golden Globes nomination for her work in The Flight Attendant, Jim Parsons dropped her a sweet note, wishing her luck and cheering her on.

"Jim had sent me a text the morning of the Globes because he saw a video I posted. He was like, 'I just saw your video.' His message was very cute. He was very excited. It’s just great for all of us because you hope that everyone’s not going to be pigeonholed and everyone from the show is doing the things they want to be doing. It really wonderful, I’m thrilled."

At the premiere of Spoiler Alert in 2022, Parsons also celebrated Kaley Cuoco's impending motherhood, expressing, "She's gonna be incredible. She's a comforting presence, and it was a pleasure to work with her day in and day out. She's a very warm person, and I think that child is lucky to have her for a mother."

Kaley hopes to be reunited with her former co-stars, although she is enjoying seeing where their careers post-The Big Bang Theory has taken them. "It does still feel like yesterday that we wrapped. I think everyone is kind of trying out their new paths and seeing what their next project is, and I'm excited to see how everyone flourishes."

Jim Parsons' Strict Lifestyle While Filming The Big Bang Theory Took A Toll On His Health

Jim Parsons took a rather radical approach to portraying Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory.

How The Big Bang Theory Ending Caused Tension Between Kaley Cuoco And Jim Parsons

The 12th and last season of The Big Bang Theory wasn't originally supposed to be the end. The show ended in 2019 because Jim Parsons, who plays Sheldon Copper, wanted to depart the comedy. This caused tensions with his co-stars as they were blindsided by their decision.

As revealed in Jessica Radloff's book,The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, there was apparently tension between Parsons and Cuoco after the cast learned about The Big Bang Theory's ending.

Executive producer Steve Holland recalled how "Kaley could barely make eye contact with Jim during the run-through," due to tensions with the show ending so abruptly after twelve seasons.

“At the time, there were a lot of hard feelings between Parsons, and Galecki and Cuoco, who weren’t privy to everything that had unfolded leading up to the decision to end the show with season twelve, or unaware why they weren’t brought into the fold sooner. Understandably, the next day at work—which was a Thursday runthrough—was fraught with tension.”

Kaley Cuoco herself has admitted that she cried "for hours" the day she found out the show was ending. "We thought we were going to do another year, so all of the sudden your life kind of flashes before your eyes. I couldn’t breathe. It just felt like a death, but also a new horizon for everybody as well."

Kaley Cuoco nearly didn't go to work the day she found out the show was ending because she was so upset. Showrunner Steve Molaro admits that her hurt feelings caused delays to the filming schedule.

"The first run-through back was kind of icy and none of them were talking between scenes, but everyone was professional.”

Despite this initial tension, it sounds like Kaley Cuoco and Jim Parsons have continued their friendship away from the sitcom.
